The National Board for Certified Counselors Will Change Educational Requirements in 2022
Posted by donna@healthlawcenterplc.com in Nov, 2018
If you are a professional counselor who is not currently certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) or are considering a counseling educational program in the future, you need to be aware that effective January 1, 2022 applicants for a national certified counselor’s distinction from the National Board for Certified Counselors will be required to have a master’s or higher degree from an educational institution accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This future certification change will not affect current professional counselors who already have earned their national certified counselors’ distinction as long as they continue to adhere to NBCC’s policies and procedures. Professional counselors who earn their national certified counselor’s distinction on or before December 31, 2021, will not be required to have earned their educational qualifications from a CACREP – accredited counseling program.
