Physicians See Nurse Practitioners As A Win-Win For The Care Of Patients

Data from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing show the number of nurse practitioners continues to increase. Based on 2017 data, approximately 28,000 nurses graduated from nurse practitioner programs in the United States. This graduation rate is up from 23,000 graduates in 2016. These nurse practitioners are also seeing more opportunities following graduation. A recent article in Medical Economics interviewed physicians who noted great value in working with nurse practitioners.
While nurse practitioners already know their value, physicians are also seeing the benefit of nurse practitioners. One doctor interviewed for the article is quoted as saying, “working with his nurse practitioner creates a true synergy”. Another physician says that “from a cost perspective, having a nurse practitioner on staff is a win-win for any practice”.
