HIPAA – Are Your Patient’s Medical Information Encrypted?
Posted by Donna Craig in Sep, 2013
Advocate Health Care in Illinois is now facing a state class-action lawsuit which was filed on behalf of 4 million individuals whose personally identifiable health information where accessed when four desktop computers were taken this past July during a burglary. The computers were password protected but not encrypted. The computers were located at the administrative offices of the 1,100+physician Advocate Medical Group. The access to 4 million patient records is the largest breach by a health care provider in history. Are your medical records encrypted, not just password protected? If not, you and your patient’s medical information is in jeopardy. Don’t let this happen to you.
