Healthcare Licensure and Credentialing Actions
Whenever a health care provider’s professional judgment, actions, or care is questioned, regardless of the facts, it is a devastating and humiliating experience. If a heath care provider’s employment with a health facility is terminated, clinical privileges are restricted, suspended or revoked, or a contract is not renewed, Michigan law requires that such actions be reported to Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Subsequently an investigation may commence. If the investigation concludes the health care professional violated the public health code, a licensure action will be filed against the health care professional’s license. If the respective licensing board imposes a sanction, the sanction will become a permanent part of Michigan’s licensing database, be publicly reported in Michigan, and reported nationally to the National Practitioner’s Data Base.
With clinical experience as a registered nurse, Ms. Craig recognizes how stressful investigations and licensure actions are for health care providers and takes an earnest approach to not only addressing the legal concerns, but actively working with clients to address emotional and psychological factors. We, at The Health Law Center feel it is essential to acknowledge clients’ emotional needs and feelings of self-doubt and hopelessness, and move them forward in their personal and professional lives. At The Health Law Center, serving as counselor and advisor takes on a more holistic approach, helping clients to move forward to a long and rewarding career.
Donna helped me get through the toughest part of my life. She not only knew exactly how to approach the situation but also really cared about how I was doing through it. I never felt like ‘just another case’ to her. I would highly recommend Donna’s legal services.
Registered Nurse, KalamazooAs the Licensure and Public Policy Co-Chair of the Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association (MMHCA), I often refer members who are experiencing licensing or professional legal difficulties to Donna Craig. I have found Donna to be highly competent with a deep understanding of both the law and healthcare professions. She is a good and compassionate listener who consistently responds in a timely manner. I consider her the best in her field. I am always confident in referring to her, and our members have benefited greatly from her assistance and expertise.
MMHCA Licensure and Public Policy Co-Chair, KalamazooI cannot imagine where I would be today without Donna’s expertise. I knew absolutely nothing about the board investigation process, but Donna guided me through it step-by-step. It was very important to me that I found a lawyer with a background in nursing who understands the medical language. Donna is straightforward, no-nonsense, and fair. If Donna hadn’t brought out the truth, then my career would have most likely been ruined. I would strongly advise anyone under a board investigation to consult Donna.
